Canada Electricity Advisory Council
- The Canada Electricity Advisory Council (CEAC) was formed in May 2023 for a one-year term to advise the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources on critical moves needed to enable Canada’s electricity sector to both decarbonize its existing grids and expand grid capacity significantly, in support of Canada’s emissions reduction goals. NZAB engaged regularly with the CEAC during its work, and provided input to inform the Council’s advice, building on recommendations from NZAB’s First Annual Report, and underscoring the transition to a decarbonized and expanded electricity system is about more than emissions reductions, with potential benefits, including improved health, affordable (generally cheaper) energy, and a just transition for all. NZAB further emphasized the critical role for the federal government, provinces, territories, municipalities, rural and Indigenous communities.
- The Council’s Final Report, Powering Canada: A Blueprint for Success (External link), provides 28 recommendations in support of achieving Canada’s decarbonization goals based on four corner stones of success: speed, reliability, affordability, and Indigenous participation.
